Many pools use a tiered price ladder. The pool starts at one per-unit price, and as it fills past set milestones the price for everyone steps down to the next tier. The price you pay is the tier the pool reaches by the time it closes — so a busier pool is a cheaper pool, and you are never charged more than the tier shown when you joined.
